I have some very sad news to share about one of IBM’s original VSE System Center members. Bob Fleming passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 17th. We have very few details other than knowing he was on his way to the IBM office at Diplomat and suffered a heart attack. He pulled off to the side of the road but emergency and hospital personnel were unable to revive him. Bob was working with BP’s / ISV’s in the Solution Developer Support Center giving technical support on z/VSE, z/OS, CICS, etc.

There will be a memorial service for Bob this Saturday, June 25th at 11:00 AM at the First Unitarian Church of Dallas. This is where one of his daughters, Celeste, is active in their youth group. There will be a small reception given by the youth group families following the service.

0000518152 01 1 005559 In Memoriam Carol LawsonCarol Jane Lawson passed from this life to the next on April 21, 2011 in Round Rock, Texas. She was born March 30, 1946 in Birmingham, Alabama, the youngest of the five daughters of Martha and Edgar Lee Morgan. Carol grew up in the Birmingham area where she attended West Jefferson High School. Later she moved to Texas, where she met her husband Dan Lawson. They married in 1977 and made their home in the Dallas area. Later they lived in Tampa, Florida area and Santa Monica, California for a time. But to Carol, Texas was “God’s Country,” and she was so excited to return in 1999. Carol’s life was short, but she didn’t waste a moment of it. She had successful careers at IBM and as owner of a travel agency with her husband. She volunteered countless hours to the Horseshoe Bay Library board and anywhere else in the community she saw a need. She wanted to see the whole wide world and was amazed by Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Paris, and other far off places. She went parasailing and rode in a hot air balloon. She planned special adventures for each of her grandkids and rode the roller coasters and got sick on junk food right along with them. She took classes at the local college. She tried all kinds of hobbies and projects and then laughed at her trail of debris. She cried for the troops in Iraq and the people of Haiti and Japan. And she never, never let anyone she met stay a stranger. She was beautiful and smart and loved good books and music and cookies. She was funny and fearless and absolutely ferocious in the protection of her family and friends. She showed us all how to be patient and kind, how to share joy and strength, how to triumph and persevere, how to live and laugh. She taught us all how to love. There are no words for how much Carol will be missed by her family, her husband Dan Lawson of Round Rock, Texas; her son Jeffrey Tilson, his wife Tricia, and her grandkids Jeffrey, Kayla, Kyle, and Katie Tilson of Franklin, Texas; her surviving sisters Fay Bookout and Jo Ann Mitchell of Alabama; her stepkids Dan Lawson and wife Susan, Janet Lawson, and Diane Bottema and husband Rick of Texas; and her cherished nieces and nephews. Her parents, along with two of her sisters, Joy Wilson and Marie Able, were waiting to welcome her when she passed over. A memorial service to celebrate Carol’s life will be held on Saturday May 7 at 2:00 PM at Beck Funeral Home, 1700 East FM 1431, Cedar Park, Texas. Her life was all about helping others, and she would be honored by donations in her memory to the American Cancer Society or a charity close to your heart. Beck Funeral Home 512-259-1610

As some of you know, last Friday morning, January 21, 2011, Jan Woody passed away unexpectedly.  She is survived by her daughters Nicci Clark and Tara Scott, one granddaughter (Chloe), and her brother Stephen Lussier.

Her memorial service will be this Friday, January 28, at 3 pm CST, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 740 S. Edmonds Lane, Lewisville, TX 75067 (phone:  (972) 436-4581).  There will be a reception immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, her daughters suggest that Jan would have preferred donations to K9Kat2 Rescue, PO Box 293534, Lewisville, TX 75029.  This is an organization that Jan helped found after many years of working in the pet adoption world with friends and family; they find homes for unwanted dogs and cats.  Please make any donations in honor of Jan Woody.
